Food Safety Specialist
About the job:
The Food Safety Specialist supports and implements food safety programs across multiple
California growing regions, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
We’re looking for someone who:
● Holds a high school diploma
● Has experience in food science or biological/physical sciences
● Has 2-3 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or regulatory compliance
within produce or food manufacturing (preferred)
● Holds PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification (highly desired)
● Has PSR (Produce Safety Rule) training (preferred)
● Has strong knowledge of GMP, GAP, HACCP, LGMA, and USDA/FDA guidelines
● Is familiar with trace-back and recall policies and procedures (preferred)
● Demonstrates strong math, written, and verbal communication skills
● Is proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel
● Is well organized and comfortable working independently
● Is bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)
● Holds a valid California Class C Driverʼs License and is insurable to operate a company
vehicle
What you’ll do:
● Support and implement food safety and food defense programs across Monterey County,
CA
● Conduct food safety training sessions and enforce compliance with FSMA requirements
● Perform GMP inspections weekly and monthly
● Conduct ranch and harvest crew risk assessments
● Coordinate and oversee GMP, GAP, and third-party audits
● Prepare growers and facilities for food safety and organic inspections
● Conduct mock recalls and support product traceability efforts
● Perform PCQI review and sign-off processes
● Investigate food safety incidents and customer complaints
● Collect and document environmental swab samples and maintain chain-of-custody records
● Communicate testing results to team members and growers
● Verify calibration and functionality of monitoring equipment such as thermometers, pH
meters, metal detectors, and ATP luminometers
● Assist in evaluating new testing equipment and implementing improvements
